Dental implant treatment in Stamford Hill, London

What is a dental implant treatment?

A Modern Alternative to Traditional Dentures – Dental Implants

Have you lost one or more teeth, or have loose dentures? Dental implants can help you get your smile back. Implants are a long-term replacement for missing teeth and designed to look and feel natural.

Dental implants are small screw-like fixtures surgically inserted into the jawbone to form an artificial tooth root, anchoring in the place of a new tooth crown. They’re made out of pure titanium or titanium alloy and almost the same size and shape as the tooth root.

Types of dental implant

Single dental implant and crown

For any single tooth loss incident, a single dental implant can work wonders and provide a long-term solution in many cases. This treatment does not require any cutting of the adjacent teeth.

Multiple dental implants

Dental implants can support multiple teeth. This typically involves the placement of two implants, which support a fixed bridge.

Removable full arch implant

It’s possible to replace all teeth in an arch, anchored by several implants. The number of implants required is dependent on the clinical assessment of each case.

Fixed full arch implant

For patients with little or no teeth, a fixed full-arch can be inserted. It uses multiple implants, secured over a series of appointments, allowing the jaw time to heal.

Dental Implants include 3 parts:

  1. A tooth crown is anchored securely to an abutment, giving you the same functions as a natural tooth. We offer porcelain and zirconium crowns.
  2. An abutment (which we provide from either titanium or zirconium) is attached to an implanted fixture.
  3. A small screw made from titanium is inserted into the jawbone – the dental implant. Titanium is commonly used as it is lightweight, strong, and biocompatible with the human body.

Consequences of having missing teeth

Tooth loss is difficult to experience as everyday tasks can cause distress and discomfort. However, if you don’t try and treat tooth loss, there are more unpleasant long-term consequences you may face including:

  • Skin and lips to cave in
  • Wrinkles
  • Droopy cheeks
  • Face deformation
  • Tooth bone shrinkage

What are the benefits of dental implants?

  • Improve your appearance – implants can help you achieve the smile you’ve lost or always aspired to have.
  • Maintain bone structure – implants can help maintain your bone structure and support your facial tissues. They can reduce or eliminate bone atrophy, which causes “shrinkage” or facial cosmetic changes.
  • Permanent solution for tooth loss – dental implants can replace the missing teeth and eliminate the need for sticky denture adhesives, and even for dentures themselves.

The Process

The first step is taking x-rays, to see if you can have dental implants. This will help us decide how much room we have to place the implant and we can begin booking in your treatment plan.

If you’ve had a missing tooth for years, we may find there isn’t enough room for an implant. This is when something called a ‘bone graft’ is necessary.

Your dental implant treatment plan is paced out, allowing implants the opportunity to heal for some time. Delaying the loading of the implant ensures that the implant is fully integrated with the surrounding bone reducing the risk of failure.
