Dental Check-up in Stamford Hill, London

What is a dental check-up treatment?

We all need to maintain good dental hygiene to care for our overall health. The mouth is a hub for different bacteria, and without regular care or checkups, can be susceptible to decay and other teeth problems.

Dental check-ups take around 20-30 minutes and can vary in what it involves. Initially, the dentist will use a probe and check all sides of every tooth, looking for signs of decay. If everything seems well, that’s your check-up complete. However, if there’s a problem, an x-ray is taken. And you’ll be advised on the next steps to treat the issue.

Dental check-ups occur every six months to care for your oral health. Regular check-ups prevent minor problems from getting worse; when the issue is spotted early, less invasive treatment is required.

Every check-up includes:

  • Examination of your teeth, gums, and mouth.
  • Discussion around your general health and any problems you have had with your teeth, mouth, or gums since your last visit.
  • Discussion around your diet, smoking and alcohol use, and teeth-cleaning habits.
  • Discussion of your next visit.
  • The performance of any specialist investigations if required, such as X-Rays, or preventative treatments including an oral cancer screening.

If you’re at a lower risk for dental problems, you can generally wait for a little longer for your checkups, even 12 months or so. However, we would recommend ensuring you go regularly enough and if you’re prone to dental problems, going more often – every six months if possible.
